In order to tackle illicit trade at its sources of origin,\u00a0JTI<\/strong>\u00a0signed an agreement with the European Commission (and its Anti-Fraud Office \u2013 OLAF) in 2007. As part of its efforts to fight this large-scale issue,\u00a0JTI<\/strong>\u00a0committed to implement a state-of-the-art\u00a0Urm\u0103rire \u0219i urm\u0103rire<\/strong>\u00a0system and processes which would allow to track its products.\u00a0JTI <\/strong>is gradually implementing such systems throughout its relevant operations.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

JTI<\/strong>\u2018s partner in Greece is\u00a0Athanassiou<\/strong><\/a>, founded in 1928 as a small tobacco wholesale store based in the center of Athens and which is now the reference on the\u00a0Greek tobacco market<\/strong>. Today the company exclusively represents\u00a0JTI<\/strong>\u00a0and six other multinational companies for the importation, storage, promotion and distribution of 160 different tobacco products and other fast-moving consumer goods in Greece. Fuelled by the dedicated contribution of a 265-person network spread throughout the country,\u00a0Athanassiou<\/strong>\u00a0serves approximately 34,000 points of sale.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

To implement an efficient track & trace solution that met their needs,\u00a0JTI<\/strong>\u00a0\u0219i\u00a0Athanassiou<\/strong>\u00a0selected\u00a0Mantis<\/strong>\u2018 state-of-the-art Warehouse & Distribution Management System (Logistics Vision Suite<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 LVS). The system was deployed at\u00a0Athanassiou<\/strong>\u2018s modern distribution center (DC) of about 100,000 square feet in Acharnes, Athens. The DC features VNA (Very Narrow Aisle) trucks, climate control, special conditions (humidor), extended fire safety\/protection and 24\/\/7 security. Products are based on a five-level pack type hierarchy (pallet, master case, carton, pack, cigarettes).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

At this stage, tracking & tracing has been implemented for master cases (a master case contains about 50 cartons, i.e. 500 packs and 10,000 cigarettes). In the future, it could be provided for cartons (about 10 packs of approximately 20 cigarettes each, i.e. 200 cigarettes) and in the longer term, for cigarettes packs. The system currently covers the distribution of all products up to the delivery point and meets the sophisticated needs of the reverse logistics\/returns.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
